Microsoft Roadmap for bringing Skype for Business Abilities to Microsoft Teams

Published 27/10/2017 - 3 Comments

At Ignite, Microsoft announced their intent for Microsoft Teams to be the primary client/service for Unified Communications and Collaboration in Office 365. Ultimately, Microsoft want customers to move away from Skype for Business Online to Microsoft Teams. Skype for Business Server continues to exist with a new version next year.

This week Microsoft released a detailed roadmap specifically explaining when “SfB features and abilities” will come to Microsoft Teams. I say “abilities” as in some cases it wont be an exact 1:1 feature mapping, but Microsoft aim to cover the same business/user requirements.

You can find a brief Tech Community blog post here. The roadmap was released on the Office 365 roadmap site and as a PDF.

The PDF offers the following slides split into Messaging, Meetings and Calling.

We also got some official details on how SfB Phones will be supported on Microsoft Teams, I’ve detailed that here.
