Interesting to see that LinkedIn has added an Active Status feature. Their FAQ implies that your status signals to others that you are “available”, but does being signed into a LinkedIn mobile app mean I’m available to all my LinkedIn network? Is being active the same as being “available”, I would argue not.
LinkedIn’s status’s are “Active now” and “available on mobile” status. You also have the ability to turn it off completely or “block”/Hide your presence from select users.
It’s interesting that we have “presence” or Status across multiple products, both inside of Microsoft (Skype, Skype for Business, Teams and now LinkedIn), with other enterprise products like Slack, Spark and HipChat and with consumer products like Facebook and WhatAapp.
all use slightly different terminology and are not linked together (Teams and Skype for Business synchronous presence is coming), do we foresee a world where Microsoft has one “presence” across products or do I want to be able to control my “status” differently in different apps?
Is “status” and presence the same thing? How does “presence” related to a mobile first world?
There is is definitely a longer discussion here, but for now you can check out LinkedIn’s status feature below. What are your thoughts on Presence and Status?
