When installing Skype for Desktop there are a few settings I customise to improve the UI compared with the default full screen view.
These settings were tested/documented in Skype for Desktop 6.18.x
Rather than have to click theough the settings each time, I wrote a quick script that edits the skype config.xml to apply these settings:
You can change the view from the default more full screen layout to “compact view”, more like Lync/MSN
You have a contacts window and multiple chat windows
I stop Skype owning tel: links, since I use Lync for my PSTN calls
I un-tick Keep Skype in the Taskbar, this means it only sits in the Tray when not maximised.
You can also remove the Skype watermark from calls and join the customer improvement/feedback program if you wish
You can change the IM font size up a bit
Turn off Tips and Promotions
There are also a nice selection of hotkeys
There are also lots of inline chat commands in Skype:
