Lync tip: Keeping Lync conversation window always on top

09/10/2011 7 Comments

A customer asked about keeping a conversation window on the top of the screen while doing another task.

There is a registry key to keep the main contact list menu always on top

Registry locations

Allowed registry values

·         00 00 00 00 – The Contact List does not appear on top of all the other windows on your desktop

·         01 00 00 00 – The Contact List appears on top of all the other windows on your desktop

Registry value type

Default setting

00 00 00 00: Microsoft Lync is not always in the foreground

The great Lync PowerShell Blog give an overview of that setting here

However the customer wanted selected conversations to always stay on top. Sure enough, once a conversation is started, there is an option to choose in the view menu to keep it always on top,

Thanks for the tips.. Have y ou discovered any option to make all conversations stay on top without setting individually for each conversation?

You mean like a global default? No I’m afriad not. I do have an autohotkey script I use to ad-hoc choose which windows stay on top, but that’s still a per window choice. Might do a post on it if it’s of interest

I really wish that someone could discover a global default to force all conversations to stay on top… I keep missing messages from people — the alerts with this program just don’t work well for me.

I really wanted Lync to be better than Sametime, but in this one catagory sametime trumps :(

Hi – How do i keeping Lync conversation window always on top in Lync 2013 ?

  4. Stuart Neill says:

When carrying out a conversation on Lync it used to allow one to minimise the window and then when the person responded to one the window would be “ontop” automatically-is this feature no longer available on Lync? (working on Win 7)

  5. Jess Haskett says:

Is there a way to have all of the conversations generate in one window? I can’t seem to find an option or a hot key for it. I had this feature at a previous place of employment and I am trying to establish it at my new place of employment.
